Laser Beam Printer Technology
Intermediate Transfer Belt
A new feature in Canon laser printers, the Intermediate
Transfer Belt, is the key to an entirely new toner application method that expands
the range of usable paper type while reducing the overall size of the printer.
Toner particles of each color are first transferred
to the Intermediate Transfer Belt from the drum cartridge. When the Intermediate
Transfer Belt has all the color toners on its surface, it will transfer the toner
onto the paper as it passes under it. The paper remains straight and flat throughout
the entire process. Straight paper path lets you choose the right output for your
needs.
Automatic Image Refinement (AIR)
This proprietary smoothing technology from Canon is
designed to ensure crisp color resolution between and among different colors in a
given print job. By adding or subtracting pixels from the edges of each of the four
print image colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black), it works with the C LBP 460PS's
scanner to help to create crisper and more realistic color output.
New Toner Technology
Previous generations of color laser printers need
a silicon oil cartridge in the machine to ensure that the toner particles of separate
colors would combine smoothly together.

A new toner technology in the C LBP 460PS eliminates the need for silicon oil cartridges.
The spherical toner particles contained a small bead of wax inside. The Intermediate
Transfer Belt applies toner particles to the paper and the paper moves on to the
fusing unit where heat is applied and toner particles are pressed together. When
the toner particles are crushed, the wax contained within is evenly distributed.
There is just enough wax to ensure that when the color particles are mixed together,
the result is smooth, bright, high-quality color and oil free output.
Canon Advanced Printing Technology (CAPT)
This unique technology increases productivity and
overall ease-of-use. CAPT also reduces the amount of on-board memory required for
printing to just a fraction of that of used in conventional laser printers.
