Colours are not printed clearly.
1. This may occur if you are using the incorrect media
and BJ cartridge. High Resolution Paper HR-101, Glossy Photo Paper GP-301 and High
Gloss Film HG-101 are the best selection for printing images such as photographs
and illustrations. These media provide more extensive colour reproduction and brighter
colour tones than the plain paper.
If you are printing graphs or charts, the Color BJ
Cartridge is the best choice of BJ Cartridge, while the Photo Color BJ Cartridge
is the best choice for natural images with fine colour gradations, such as photographs.
Worn BJ Cartridges may also fail to print colours
clearly. Print a nozzle check pattern and check the status of the print heads.
2. Ensure that the printer driver settings match the
paper used and the type of printing.
Open the Printer Properties dialog box and select
the correct print mode icon for the document you are printing. Confirm that the BJ
Cartridge and Media Type settings match the BJ Cartridge and media you are actually
using.
Note: Try making fine adjustments to the Colour
Balance and Intensity settings. To view these settings click the Advanced button
on the Main tab then click the Colour tab.
3. Using a refilled ink cartridge may also be the
cause of this problem
When an ink cartridge runs out of ink. replace it
with a new genuine Canon ink cartridge.
The colours on the printout do not match
the colours on the screen.
The colours on the printout are different from the
colours you see on the computer screen. For instance, objects that appear blue on
the screen are printed purple and objects that appear pale green on the screen are
printed dark green.
1. This problem may arise if you are using a worn
BJ Cartridge. If the colour tones are particularly odd, one of the inks in the BJ
Cartridge may have run out or one of the print head nozzles may be blocked.
First, print a nozzle check pattern and check the
condition of the print heads.
2. Settings of printer driver may be another factor
to this problem. In order to check this, open the Printer Properties dialog box and
select the correct print mode icon for the document you are printing. Check also
that the BJ Cartridge and Media Type settings match the BJ Cartridge and media you
are actually using.
Note: Try making fine adjustments to the Colour
Balance and Intensity settings. To view these settings click the Advanced button
on the Main tab then click the Colour tab.

Printout is faint or the colours are wrong.
Text appears faint or the wrong colours are printed.
1. This problem may occur if you are using an old
BJ Cartridge. If the text is faint or the printed colours are wrong, the ink in the
BJ Cartridge may have run out of ink, one of the print head nozzles may be blocked,
or the print heads may be worn out. Print a nozzle check pattern and check the status
of the print heads.
2.Reattaching a used protective cap or tape may also
cause this problem. The orange protective cap and tape attached to a new BJ Cartridge
should never be reused. Reattaching the tape or cap could result in air bubbles or
foreign matter getting into the ink and blocking the print nozzles.
If you have already reattached the protective tape or cap, remove them immediately,
reinstall the BJ Cartridge in the printer and clean the print head. If the printout
is still faint after the print head has been cleaned, install a new BJ Cartridge.
3. Printed graphics may appear with wrong colours
if the wrong side of paper is being used. Most media have only one side that is suitable
for printing. Check that the media is not loaded with the incorrect side up.
Straight lines are not printed straight.
The lines in tables are not printed straight.
1. You need to ensure that the BJ Cartridge are correctly
installed to confirm this, remove the BJ Cartridge and reinstall them correctly.
2. Another possibility to this problem is the setting
of quality to Fast. Moving the Print Quality slider towards Fine will produce a better
result for printed lines. Below are the procedure to follow:
A. Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
B. Click the advanced button.
C. Click the Quality tab and use the Print Quality
slide to set the print quality.
The paper comes out curled.
1. If you are printing on a very thin paper, this
problem may happen. This is due to printing of photographs or illustrations with
intense colours uses large amounts of ink, the paper may curl or be wavy when it
is fed out of the printer. In such cases, you should use High Resolution Paper HR-101
or Glossy Photo Paper GP-301. The special coating used on the print side of High
Resolution Paper and Glossy Photo Paper provides better ink absorption and reduces
the tendency of the paper to distort after printing.
Note: Because the back side of High Resolution
Paper and Glossy Photo Paper is not treated with the special coating and has poor
ink absorption, do not print on the back of the paper. The whiter side is the print
side for both media.
2. Printing with a high density setting may also cause
this problem. Try printing with the Intensity set to a lower setting. This will prevent
waviness in the printout because less ink is used.
A. Open the Printer Properties dialog box.
B. Click the Advanced button.
C. Click the Colour tab and use the Intensity slider
to adjust the print intensity.
3. This problem may occur if the printer and the computer
are not properly connected. Faulty or loose connections can prevent documents from
being printed correctly. Check the connections carefully.
4. Check whether there is a WPS (Windows Printing
System) driver installed on your computer. You may not be able to print correctly
if a WPS driver is installed. Follow the procedures below:
A. Click Start, Settings, then Printers.
B. If a WPS driver is installed, open the WPS driver
Properties dialog box by right-clicking its icon and selecting Properties from the
pop up menu. In the Details tab, check the "print to the following port"
setting.
If the selected port is the port used by the Canon
BJC-2000SP, change the WPS driver port setting to FILE or uninstall the WPS driver.

The printer will not operate after it is
plugged in.
Printer will not operate after the printer power cord
is plugged into the power outlet.
There is no power button on the printer. The printer
is switched on automatically as soon as it is plugged into the power outlet. Connect
another appliance to the power outlet and check that the outlet is supplying power.
If the printer still will not operate, unplug the
printer from the power outlet and contact your Canon Authorised Dealer or Service
Representative.
The printer will not start printing.
The printer does not print when the Print command
is issued from the computer.
1. This problem may cause by the types of files that
you are printing, i.e. photographs, graphics, etc. When you print files with large
amounts of image data, such as photographs or graphics, it takes a while for the
computer to process the print data and then send that data to the printer. Consequently,
you may have to wait some time before the printer starts printing.
2. This problem may also arise if the printer and
the computer are not properly connected. Faulty or loose connections can prevent
documents from being printed. Check the connections carefully.
3. If you are using the printer driver for a different
printer, you will not be able to print successfully. Look at the printer name displayed
in the software application Print dialog box and confirm that the relevant printer
model is selected.
Note:Refer to the user's manual for your software
application for more information about this procedure.
4. Your printer may not start printing if the printer
port is not properly selected. If the printer and computer are connected via a direct
cable, specify LPT1 as the printer port.
Open the Printer Properties dialog box directly from
the Start button.
Click the Details tab and select LPT1.
For Windows 3.1 user:
If you are using Canon BJC-2100SP (for example), check that "Canon BJC-2100SP
on LPT1:" is displayed in the installed Printer's box of the Printers dialog
box. If it is not listed, click the Connect button, select LPT1 in the Ports box
and then click the OK button.
5. You may not be able to print correctly if the printer
port on the computer is set to ECP, Cancel ECP mode and try again. For details contact
your hardware dealer or manufacturer.

Printing stops mid-way.
The printer stops in the middle of printing.
1. This problem may happen of you are printing a very
finely detailed illustration or photograph. Because the printer requires more time
to process the data for very finely detailed illustrations or photographs, it may
appear to have stopped working.
2. If you have been printing for an extended period,
this problem may arise too. The print heads overheat if you print continuously for
long periods. To protect the print heads, you may pause printing temporarily when
the print heads reach the end of a pass. Printing restarts after a short pause. Interrupt
printing at a convenient point, and wait until the print heads cool down. (at least
15 minutes)
Caution!
Never touch the print heads or the surrounding area as they may be very hot.
The printer operates but nothing is printed.
The printer seems to be operating normally, but nothing
is printed.
1. One of the possibilities of this problem may be
due to the usage of old BJ Cartridge. When this happens, the BJ Cartridge may have
run out of ink, the print head nozzles may be blocked, or the print head may be worn.
Print a nozzle check pattern to check the status of the print heads and then clean
the print heads.
If you still cannot pint, replace the BJ Cartridge
or ink cartridge. There may also be a problem with the software application or with
the data in the document itself.
Paper will not feed in from the sheet feeder.
Paper is not fed in from the sheet feeder.
1. The paper may not feed properly if it is too thick.
Depending on the model of the printer used, on the average, media used with the printer
must be within the range of 64-105g/m2.
2. Overloading the sheet feeder may also cause this
problem. The paper will not be fed correctly if you exceed the prescribed number
of sheets.
3. Removing paper rest (paper tray) may be one of
the causes of the problem. The paper rest should be installed on the printer at all
times.
4. The problem may also occur if the paper used for
printing is folded or curled. Do not use paper that is folded, curled or crumpled.
Such paper will not be fed into the printer and may cause paper jams.

Envelopes are not fed correctly.
Envelopes are fed into the printer skewed or are not
fed in at all.
1. Enveloped will not feed in properly if there are
too many envelopes loaded together. Only five envelopes can be loaded into the sheet
feeder at one time.
2. Ensure that envelopes are flat. When you are loading
envelopes into the sheet feeder, press down firmly all round the edges to remove
any warping or curling and to expel any air from inside the envelopes. If the envelopes
are still warped, hold the edges of the envelopes diagonally and bend them gently
to straighten them out.
Make sure that the flaps are straight. To ensure that the envelopes feed into the
printer correctly, use the end of a pen or similar object to firmly flatten down
the leading edges of the envelopes.
3. This problem may happen if the envelopes are not
loaded in the correct orientation. Load envelopes horizontally with the flap side
down. Feeding envelopes in any other way will cause misfeeds or paper jams.
The paper is skewed.
1. The paper will not be fed correctly of you exceed
the prescribed number of sheets. Check the load limit mark on the left side of the
feeder for the maximum level of paper that can be fed at one time.
2. This problem may arise if the paper is folded or
curled. Do not use paper that is folded, curled or crumpled. Such paper will not
be fed into the printer and may cause paper jams.
3. Ensure that the paper guide is adjusted correctly.
Be sure to print the paper guide so it moves smoothly. Slide the paper guide so that
it presses lightly against the left side of the paper stack. If the paper stack guide
is not snug against the stack or sheet, or if it is too tight causing the media to
bend, the paper will feed skewed and cause paper jams.
Multiple sheets feed together.
1. Before loading paper into the sheet feeder, the
paper edges must be fanned thoroughly. Fan the edges of the paper to remove static
cling and then tap the edges to align them before loading them into the sheet feeder.
2. Ensure that the sheet feeder is not overloaded.
The paper will not be fed correctly if you exceed the prescribed number of sheets.
3. This problem may be due to folded or curled media.
Do not use paper that is folded, curled or crumpled. Such paper will not be fed into
the printer and may cause paper jams.

The paper jammed.
1. If the paper is jammed, remove it. Slowly pull
the paper out of the sheet feeder or the front of the printer, whichever is easier.
If the paper tears and some of it is left in the printer, open the front cover to
remove the jammed paper.
2. After you have removed all the jammed paper, close
that front cover. Load the paper again and try printing again.
Note: On the average, media used with the printer
must be within the range of 64-105g/m2.
Do not use folded or curled paper.
BJ Status Monitor Displays an Error Message.
When an error occurs during a print job, the BJ Status
Monitor will display an error message on the Printer Status sheet and describe what
kind of error occurred.
For more information about how to solve the problem, click the Guide tab to display
the Guide sheet. The Guide tab provides illustration and text that will guide you
step by step through solving the problem. Read the information on the Guide tab then
click the Next button for more information. To return to a previous step, click the
Back button.

"Error writing to LPT1:" displayed.
When you try to print, the "Error writing to
LPT1:" message appears on the screen and you cannot print.
1. Check if the printer is plugged in properly. Confirm
that printer power plug is connected to the printer and plugged into a live power
outlet. After the printer is plugged in, the printer switches on automatically. There
is no power button on the printer.
If the printer will not operate, see "The
printer will not operate after it is plugged in"
2. This problem may arise if the printer and the computer
are not connected properly. Ensure that the power cord and printer cable are securely
connected.
3. Another possible reason to this problem is the
operation of the print spool. If the print spool is not operating correctly, cancel
print spooling and print with the print data sent directly to the printer.
Follow the procedures below:
A. Open the Printer Properties dialog box directly
from the Start button.
B. Click the Spool Settings button on the Details
tab and select "Print directly to the printer."
4. Ensure that the printer port (LPT1) is functioning
properly.
Check the status of the printer port:
A. Right-click My Computer on the desktop and select
Properties from the pop-up menu.
B. Click the Device Manager tab. Double-click Ports
on the Device Manager tab then double-click Printer Port (LPT1).
C. Check information about problems with the port
in Device Status in the General tab.
D. Click the Resources tab and check Conflicting devices.
For information on how to delete a conflicting device, refer to the user's manual
for the device.
5. Installation of printer driver may cause this problem
as well. There may be a problem with the printer driver. Remove the printer driver
and reinstall it.
6. Check whether there is a WPS (Windows Printing
System) driver installed on your computer. You may not be able to print correctly
if a WPS driver is installed.
